LAUNCHES
Founded in 2023, the R&D Team aims to launch a dual-stage rocket past the Kármán Line. The team also runs multiple advanced engineering projects, including custom flight computers and 3-axis filament winder.
In just three years, they have launched 8 two-stage rockets and set a new altitude record of 41,788 feet.
.Liquid Team is responsible for the design and development of liquid engine and rocket. The team is currently working on Aether I, a Nitrous Oxide rocket and Aether II, a Liquid Oxygen rocket as well as developing a Thrust Vector Control (TVC).
On June 5, 2026, the Liquid team successfully launched Aether I, IIT's first ever liquid-fuel rocket, to 5,600ft
The IREC team competes in the the world’s largest Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) for student rocketry teams with over 140 teams from colleges and universities in 32 countries.
Through this competition, IREC leads and members focus on designing a 10k COTS high-powered rocket with a scientific payload and airbrake systems
At certification launches, club members get to build and launch their own rockets to get certified by the Tripoli Rocketry Association, starting with Level 1, going through Levels 2 and 3. The kits will be provided by the club.
We currently have 46 students L1-certified and 3 students L2-certified.
Training Program is a ~12-week program dedicated to giving new members a solid foundation in the fundamentals of rocket design and construction. In this program, students will learn about basic rocket design and simulation, from structure, and aerodynamics to avionics, as well as other engineering skills like CAD/CAM and power tools.
Working with the university and local organizations to spark student interest and involvement in STEM and rocketry. Every year, we host outreach events on campus with lectures on high-powered rocketry and hands-on activities like building paper or water bottle rockets for middle, high school students.
Spring 2025: 7th Annual AeroSTEM Expo
In partnership with AeroStar Avion Institute, the 7th Annual AeroSTEM Expo is a hands-on aviation science, technology, engineering, and math immersion for youth and families in the Chicago area!
Spring 2023: Women in Aerospace
Collaborated with the MMAE Department of IIT and WiSTEM to host the Women in Aerospace event for middle and high school students with an introduction to the aerospace industry, basics of rocketry lectures, and hands-on activities like building two-stage rockets from balloons
Spring 2023: Engineering Day
Presented at Engineering Day hosted by Illinois Tech’s MMAE department for local middle and high schools to introduce K-12 students to a wide range of engineering disciplines
